A LESSON ON THE TOPIC: “MASS MEDIA . TELEVISION IN UKRAINE”.

The 9^th form.

Level: INTERMEDIATE.

Aims and objectives:

Teacher’s objectives:

- to perfect students’ cognitive and creative skills;

to revise and enrich pupils’ vocabulary on the topic “Mass Media”;

-         to develop listening for gist and details;

-         to develop pupils’ creative and cultural thinking skills;

-         to practise listening, speaking and reading on the topic;

-         to develop culture of communication;

Learner’s objectives:

-         - by the end of the lesson students will be able to speak on the theme;

-         - express their opinions about mass media;

-         - recognize the speaker’s attitude towards media.

Equipment: books, Pover Point Presentation; handouts (pictures, cards with words, texts, big sheets of paper, glue), audio scripts .

Procedure

I. Introduction.

Dear friends! Today we are having a summary lesson devoted to the subject “Mass Media”. By the end of the lesson you should be able to tell about your world of information, to operate lexical material about communication, mass media and computer.

II. Warming – up.

III  Main body.

1. Introduction of the topic and the aims of the lesson.

T. The mass media consists of  Publishing, Audio Recording, Broadcasting, Films and Digital Media.

3. Guessing the word

Work in pair. Your task is to match the words and their definitions. (flashcards)

4. Review of students’ knowledge of speaking.

Match the question to the answers and practice these short dialogues with your partner. (flashcards)

       Look at the words and word-combinations and try to translate them.

You will hear three friends talking about a TV program  they went to see. Before you listen, read through the list of statements below. As you listen, decide whether each statement is true (T) or false (F).

6.  Doing a project. Work in groups.

Reading

 And now you’ll have a project work. Let’s unite into four groups. Your task is to make a page from the magazine. You’ve got a big sheet of paper, parts of the articles, pictures, and headlines. You have to put the paragraphs of the articles in the correct order. For this you must find the beginning, the main part and the ending of the text. On the top of the project is going to be the headline of the article.

7 . Writing.

And now we revise and practice using of defining and non-defining relative clauses. Choose the correct word.
